In high quality chimes, precise mathematic formulas are used to increase the fundamental tones in each tube length. Holes must be drilled precisely at 22.4% of the total length to maximize the sound of each tube so that it blends with the other notes of the chime.
Hang your redwood chime securely where the breeze can play you a soothing melody and so that it does not fall during heavier winds. Redwood is a natural durable building material that does not rot, and bugs don’t like it. The wood is composed of very long fibers and has exceptional strength. The cording is a marine-strength cordage used in commercial fishing nets. The spar varnish used on the wood will age naturally over time to a soft gray patina. (Note: Copper tubing will develop a lovely patina over time that produces a soft grayish green weathering this is normal for copper.)
